Description

Rugby is a club sport sanctioned by: RugbyIndiana, The Indiana Rugby Football Union, The Midwest Rugby Union and USA Rugby. Bishop Dwenger competes two levels of play offered by RugbyIndiana. Traditionally, practices have been on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5:30pm. Be prepared to be inside or outside as the weather changes.

2010-11 Conditioning

Rugby conditioning has started for the 2010-11 year. Winter Conditioning will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:00pm beginning December 7th and going through the end of January. We will meet in the SAC lobby. Please have the proper gear... gym shoes, t-shirt, shorts. If the temperature is above 32 degrees, there is a possibility that we will be going outside, so bring sweatpants, sweatshirt, hat, and gloves on warmer days. If you need a ride, please contact a coach so they can help make arrangements for you. Questions please contact Sam as his dad, Joe, will be out of commission for the next month with knee surgery.

Registration

Players use

RugbyIndiana to access the IYRF online registration page.

The Registration Process

Players will be asked to create a log-in, provide parent and player contact information, review and accept our code of conduct, liability waiver, and parental consent to treat. You will then be prompted to make payment via credit card or check. Those that choose "check" will need to mail it into the address (provided) to be received by March 1st. Last, you will be prompted to "click" to print the parental consent form - you are to have this signed by parent or guardian and deliver to Coach DiFilippo.

*The registration does ask for returning player's CIPP #s, returning players look on the roster page.

Players must meet school, IHSAA, and RugbyIndiana academic requirements, and adhere to the Bishop Dwenger Athletic Code of Conduct and Sportsmanship. A copy of the player's driver's license or state issued ID must be submitted to the coach, as well as a copy of their health insurance card (front and back). Players need to register with RugbyIndiana online. Team dues of $160 will be due at that time and must also be paid online.

Things to Know

  • All players must have an IHSSA physical before you can practice.
  • Players begin planning now for the 2010 season. Look at sat dates, prom dates, Dr's appointments and anything else that can prevent you from practicing and playing in games. PLAN AHEAD!!!!
  • All players and parents must attend the Spring Code of Conduct meeting.
  • Our parent meeting will take place soon.
  • Cost will be determined. RugbyIndiana fees must be paid online by February, 2011 to participate in practices. a $10 late fee will be added by RugbyIndiana after this date.
  • Game jerseys are provided by the club. Shorts, socks, mouthpieces and personal gear are the responsibility of the players. The club will sell all items at our cost to the players. Rugby shorts and socks must be worn to practice.
  • We will field 2 teams; a Division I and a Division II. The D-I team is very competitive and will be limited to our top level athletes. The D-II is more instructional and everyone plays. In the past we have had a novice team but this year we felt we would not have the number of players required by RugbyIndiana to field a 3rd team.
  • All schedules, forms and communications will be posted on this website.

NEW IN 2010

We are using the Indiana Sports Concussion Network and the ImPACT concussion management program. To address the concussion issue we are requiring every player to create a baseline test. This is done on-line and takes about 30 minutes. Specific directions on what to do will be given to each player as they give to Coach Porter their signed waiver. This will be a great diagnostic aid for suspected concussions and the protection of our players and your sons. We ask for your support in this.
